ESTONIAN NATURE, BLACK AND WHITE MUST-VALGE, EESTI LOODUS Näitus Galerii Daliko, Krems, Austria 24.11.-15.12.2017 Näitus heidab mõtliku pilgu Eesti olemusele.

CONCEPT Exhibition Estonian Nature-Black And White gives a subjective overview of the Estonian nature by visual artists who have been invited to live and work in Estonian Artists Associations Art Residency on island Muhu, during last couple of years. Residency, that is situated in wild and archaic environment of Muhu island, on the edge of the Western world, is probably the oldest farm in a small fishing village called Nõmmküla. By coming there the artists are finding themselves outside of the contemporary world.. The time and progress has stopped for this place in year 1900. This is a fact that formes the artistic experience and includes a profound meaning in itself - the absolute lack of contemporary history as we know it. The artworks for this exhibition can be called the subjective but real representations of Estonian identity, that particular self that is cut off from European modern history, id est our spiritual landscapes without revolutions, wars, postmodernism and the other forms of popular culture of 20. and 21 Centuries. Is it a romantic or painful picture that contemporary artists are receiving from this time-machine type of environment.. Estonian Nature-Black And White is an exhibition of the experience from the edge of contemporary world as we know it.
Muhu Art Residency hosts art residents and art events, organizes annual art and music festival Futu Muhu, helds exhibitions in different galleries. All this is forming the new unique Muhu art-scene. Exhibition Estonian Nature, Black and White is a brief overview of residency activities since year 2015 while residency has hosted artists from USA, Germany, Japan, France, Russia, England, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarussia and of course Estonia.
We hope that this exhibition will give good enough overview of Muhu Residency general idea to bring together professional artists, to generate professional synergy for artwork. To give artists new real and physical Muhu experience that enables the opportunity to enjoy the art that has been created in and for spiritual environment.
